Travel Plan

This information forms part of a Travel Plan prepared to promote a range of lifestyle and travel choices for Peters Village. It is intended to provide information for both existing and potential residents, as well as visitors, so that they are fully informed about the travel options to and from Peters Village.

With the aim of reducing reliance on the private car, the Travel Plan can assist in developing Peters Village as a sustainable community. It provides information on public transport services - bus and rail – plus local cycling and walking routes.

A Travel Plan Coordinator has been appointed for Peters Village to provide existing and prospective residents with advice in relation to any travel questions and specific travel needs.

As you can see from the map at the bottom of the page, Peters Village has a wide array of travel options. There is also a Residents’ Travel Information Leaflet to accompany the map, which you can read or download by clicking here. The leaflet is provided to all existing and new residents, whilst a summary of the leaflet information follows here:

The Peters Village Travel Plan aims to:

  • encourage and support use of sustainable modes of travel
  • inform future residents of public transport facilities
  • promote the sustainability of Peters Village

Leading to:

  • opportunities for active, healthy travel
  • better travel choices and accessibility
  • less local road congestion
  • better local environment

BUS - Peters Village is directly and daily connected with the major local towns of Chatham and Maidstone by the 155 bus service, while a 20-25-minute walk across Peters Bridge to the River Medway's west bank will also access the:

  • 151 service between Kings Hill and Chatham
  • 653 service from Halling to Rochester and Chatham schools
  • 71 & 575 services to Maidstone

Clarkes of London has a stop in Peters Village for its 764 London commuter service – click here for the London stops and timetables

RAIL - services are accessible at Halling and Snodland rail stations, each a 30-minute walk or less than 15-minutes’ cycle from Peters Village offering:

  • regular rail services from both stations to Tonbridge, Strood and Maidstone West
  • high Speed commuter services from Snodland to London St. Pancras (via Stratford International) at morning and evening peak times.

Cycling can be a healthy and cost-cutting travel option or a way to access public transport; covered cycle parking at Snodland station is an added attraction to train commuters.

Local cycle routes include sections of National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 17, about 1km east of Peters Village, connecting south to Maidstone and north to Rochester, Chatham and Gillingham. It incorporates sections of traffic-free routes, and connecting with other key cycle routes (see Kent County Council’s website, as well as the Sustrans website – both listed below).

Check out cycling savings through the Government’s Bike2Work scheme, discounts negotiated by the Peters Village Travel Plan Coordinator and ‘Bikeability’ training courses – again, see the contacts list.

The Travel Plan Coordinator is creating a database to find potential car sharing partners within Peters Village; this is a ‘win, win’ option allowing residents to cut their travel costs, car wear and tear, and carbon emissions and can be more direct and flexible than public transport. As a resident, even if you don’t own a car, you may be able to car share with someone else with a similar journey to work. Simply contact the Travel Plan Coordinator or check Kent County Council’s existing car-sharing website – contact details below.
