Peters Village now has an online Travel Plan portal to highlight and promote the community’s comprehensive sustainable transport and communications network.
The new digital presence complements the Residents’ Travel Information leaflet published in November and distributed to existing and prospective homeowners at Peters Village.
But while the leaflet can be updated from time to time, as well as read and downloaded from the online Travel Plan section within the Peters Village website the new web presence means travel developments can be reported immediately.
“The Travel Plan feature highlights the integrated nature of travel options on and around Peters Village,” said Chris Hall, Director of Trenport, which developed the new 1,000-home community.
“And we appointed a specialist transport planning consultancy, Markides Associates , to the role of Travel Plan Coordinator (email@example.com) to plan and promote the best possible travel options for the new community, from footpaths and cycleways right up to the high-speed train link into London via Peters Bridge and Snodland Station.”
The key part of the Travel Plan is the viewable and downloadable map showing all of these many links (http://bit.ly/2UWGUM9) but, as in the Residents’ Travel Information leaflet, the various travel options and levels of sustainability are also summarised by pictures and text.
Travel Plan Coordinator spokesman Peter Thompson said: “A new community like Peters Village offers the chance to model a thoroughly modern transport system that is more environmental and sustainable, using walking and cycling as increasingly popular and healthy ways of getting around or feeding into public transport, before residents feel they have to resort to the ubiquitous car.
“On the other hand, even the car can play its part sustainably if residents dial into the car sharing option; far better for the environment, while spreading the travel cost and the wear and tear on the vehicles.
“The Travel Plan also brings the various contacts for car sharing, cycling, public transport and so on together in one place, and shows how well-connected Peters Village really is, especially thanks to the new River Medway crossing offered by Peters Bridge, which includes a shared footway/cycleway.
“The community also now has bus and commuter coach links that weren’t there a few months ago and, with some 182 homes now occupied on Peters Village, the options and incentives to grow the transport web can only improve.”
